Help Us Make an Impact
The funds raised are used for educational and community outreach programming.
ECCTAI supports the national goals of Tuskegee Airmen, Inc., to preserve the rich legacy, to motivate, inspire and stimulate young people's minds to aspire to, seek and achieve successful careers in the fields of aviation and aerospace. ECCTAI members devote time, effort and financial resources to capture young minds, to instill the undying will to learn, sacrifice and attain a self-sustaining status with marketable skills.
Annually, The East Coast Chapter, Tuskegee Airmen, Inc. (ECCTAI) assists financially disadvantaged deserving young men and women in pursuit of education, preferably leading to careers in the fields of aviation, aerospace, and science and technology.
On average, twenty (20) grants per year are provided to college students. Particular emphasis is placed on students who will pursue careers in aviation, aerospace, and science technology, honoring the living and deceased members of the Tuskegee Airmen who overcame racial barriers to achieving their dreams of becoming pilots, aviators, as well as air and ground support personnel. Currently, these careers in the aviation industry are not very accessible to disadvantaged youth.
Level 1: Designed to expose high school students (ages 15 - 19) to careers in aviation. Students attend five all-day sessions. The sessions cover Tuskegee Airmen and general aviation history, career overviews, and the basics of flight, air traffic control, maintenance and a small aircraft flight experience.
Level II: Designed for student who is interested in becoming a pilot. Qualified students attend ground school for 8 - 10 weekends to prepare for the FAA written exam (a prerequisite to Level III).
Level III, the flying portion of the program, is held during the summer. Students receive at least 15 hours of flight instruction.
